Overcoming bankruptcy just one year after its creation, Buick quickly became " the N umber one producer of automobiles in 1908 , surpassing the combined production of Ford and Cadillac, its closest competitors (Gustin,1993) . " Buick is known for many things; such as the creation of the overhead valve engine or its widely known smooth engines, but Buick is also known to have a reputation for wide bodied boat like vehicles that only elderly people drive. Over the years the reputation of Buick has stayed the same, its an old people car, the "Grandpa of Automobiles (Gustin, 1993) ". But in more recent times, they have changed their whole marketing strategy and have caught the attention of the younger generations with advancements in technology and release newer models with turbocharged engines. These changes however did not change how Buick handles its busine ss, they have attracted younger consumers, but have stayed true to their core market. To attract a younger generation of consumers, Buick had to test out the market in some of the following segments: market value, age on consumers, advertising, popularity, and technological necessities. They had to evaluate exactly how to go about these categories, without jeopardizing their reputation and could not risk losing out on the younger consumer market. Primarily an elderly vehicle, they had to embrace the idea of changing up their entire marketing platform. The company had to remove the image of only elder drivers driving Buicks. The advancements in the physical look of the vehicle also helped with the changing of consumer minds. Buick also launched a series of commercials where the slogan was "Is that a Buick" coming out of the mouths of many young people but also older people, showing that they have revamped their lineup and its indistinguishable as just an old person car. Changing the internals of the vehicle, with newer technologies has also changed the market value for Buick, Including the newest advancements that every company is going for: Apple Car Play and Wireless QI Charging. These new features, and physical changes were only some of the steps to revamp the marketing of the company. Revamping the marketing platform came with the collaboration of Zach King," a trick cinematographer who works in a medium called Vine (Bond,2014) ". King used his fame and notoriety on the social media app to advertise for Buick, and quickly gained them more viewers and followers on social media platforms. King was able to reach the younger generations of consumers, using cinematic enhancements to make the vehicle more likeable. " The average age of the of a Buick buyer was 60.3, the highest of all mainstream makes, and second only to Lincoln, which IHS classifies as a luxury brand. (Bond,2014) " This is a statistic that Buick wanted to change. They researched the market and did surveys on what consumers would like to see in their product. "We're attacking head-on the false familiarity of Buick being an old person's brand . (Colias,2014) " That is the new marketing plan created by Buick-GMC Chief Duncan Aldred. Buick is part of the General Motors family including GMC, Chevrolet, and Cadillac. Since its revamp and relaunch the Buicks sales went up twelve percent from its previous position, while Cadillac dropped to negative two percent in sales. Further on since the revamp, in the second quarter of the following sales year, Buick had an unprecedented number of new customers. " Most Buick newcomers came from Chevrolet at seventeen percent, followed by GMC nine percent, Ford five percent, Toyota four percent and Honda and Cadillac with three percent each. How to Use Comments in Java Code Java comments are notes in a Java code file that are ignored by the compiler and runtime engine. They are used to annotate the code in order to clarify its design and purpose. You can add an unlimited number of comments to a Java file, but there are some best practices to follow when using comments. Generally, code comments are implementation comments that explain the source code, such as descriptions of classes, interfaces, methods, and fields. These are usually a couple of lines written above or beside Java code to clarify what it does. Another type of Java comment is a Javadoc comment. Javadoc comments differ slightly in syntax from implementation comments and are used by the program javadoc.exe to generate Java HTML documentation. Why Use Java Comments? Its good practice to get into the habit of putting Java comments into your source code to enhance its readability and clarity for yourself and other programmers. It isnt always instantly clear what a section  of Java code is performing. A few explanatory lines can drastically reduce the amount of time it takes to understand the code. Do They Affect How the Program Runs? Implementation comments in Java code are only there for humans to read. Java compilers dont care about them and when compiling the program, they just skip over them. The size and efficiency of your compiled program will not be affected by the number of comments in your source code. Implementation Comments Implementation comments come in two different formats: Line Comments: For a one line comment, type // and follow the two forward slashes with your comment. For example: // this is a single line comment int guessNumber (int) (Math.random() * 10); When the compiler comes across the two forward slashes, it knows that everything to the right of them is to be considered as a comment. This is useful when debugging a piece of code. Just add a comment from a line of code you are debugging, and the compiler wont see it: // this is a single line comment // int guessNumber (int) (Math.random() * 10); You can also use the two forward slashes to make an end of line comment: // this is a single line comment int guessNumber (int) (Math.random() * 10); // An end of line comment Block Comments: To start a block comment, type /*. Everything between the forward slash and asterisk, even if its on a different line, is treated as a  comment until the characters */ end the comment. For example: /* this is a block comment */ /* so is this */ Javadoc Comments Use special Javadoc comments to document your Java API. Javadoc is a tool included with the JDK that generates HTML documentation from comments in source code. A Javadoc comment in  .java  source files is enclosed in start and end syntax like so:  /**  and  */. Each comment within these is prefaced with a  *.   Place these comments directly above the method, class, constructor or any other Java element that you want to document. For example: // myClass.java/** * Make this a summary sentence describing your class.* Heres another line. */public class ​myClass{...} Javadoc incorporates various tags that control how the documentation is generated. For example, the  param  tag defines parameters to a method: /** main method * param args String[] */​ public static void main(String[] args) ​{ ​ System.out.println(Hello World!);​ } Many other tags are available in Javadoc, and it also supports HTML tags to help control the output. See your Java documentation for more detail. Tips for Using Comments Dont over comment. Every line of your program does not need to be explained. If your program flows logically and nothing unexpected occurs, dont feel the need to add a comment.Indent your comments. The Next Generation Space Telescope Essay For decades the Hubble Telescope has played a pivotal role in astronomy’s history.   However, by 2013, the Hubble may pail in comparison to the Next Generation Space Telescope.   Now known as the James Webb Space Telescope, scientists are hopeful that this Hubble upgrade will prove beneficial in advancing space discovery.   This infrared, observation device named after NASA’s second director will be built, maintained, and operated by NASA along with the help of Canadian and European space associations (NASA, 2007).   With the tentative date of June 2013, scientists are eagerly awaiting a launch that will take place off the Ariane 5 rocket (European, 2007). With its mission well defined, the Webb Telescope will look for evidence to substantiate the Big Bang Theory.   Also, while studying the stars and other celestial bodies, they hope to uncover the origins of the galaxies (Birth, 2007). Taking advantage of the Webb Telescope’s new optic capabilities will do this.   The new scope will have a primary mirror that is six times larger than that of the Hubble Scope (NASA, 2007).   This mirror will be comprised of numerous segments, all of which will unfold post launch.   These segments will be perfectly positioned through the use of micrometers. The telescope also contains an Integrated Science Instrument Module. This module is composed of a Near Infrared Camera, a Near Infrared Spectrograph, and a Mid Infrared instrument.   These properties will allow the telescope to be light sensitive from a wavelength of .6 to 27 micrometers.   Webb’s telescope will have such visual acuity that â€Å"we can see details the size of a U.S. penny at a distance of about 24 miles† (NASA, 2007 ).  Ã‚   This telescope’s visual capacity is so great that it can even detect the faintest of objects.   With the hope of studying the first stars and galaxies of the universe, the scope has been designed to view bodies up to 100 times more than the Hubble (NASA, 2007). Once all of the images and data have been collected, they will be sent to earth via a higher frequency radio transmitter. However, for this to occur, certain precautions must be taken.   The near infrared instruments work at 30 Kelvin while the mid infrared instruments work at 7 Kelvin (Koris, 2007) To accommodate this, sunshades will be made to protect the scope from the sun’s harsh glare.   The shades will reduce the telescope temperature up to 50 Kelvin, allowing for all machinery to work properly.  Ã‚   Precautions like these are essential, as the Webb telescope will not be serviceable like the Hubble Telescope (NASA, 2007). Unlike the Hubble that is only 600 kilometers away, the Webb telescope is some 1.5million kilometers from the earth and far beyond a space shuttles reach. With an estimated cost of   $35 million dollars, the Webb Telescope went into its first design phase and by the summer of 2007 it is speculated that the telescope will go into its second and more detail oriented design phase.  Ã‚   Scientists have high hopes for the James Webb Space Telescope.  Ã‚   NASA (2007) even stated, â€Å"JWST [James Webb Space Telescope] will be the premier observatory of the next decade, serving thousands of astronomers worldwide. Henri Matisse: Goldfish Henri Emoile Matisse, born in 1869, is regarded as one of the â€Å"great formative figures in 20th-century art†, as well as the leader of the Fauve group. Fauvism is defined as â€Å"an early-20th-century movement in painting begun by a group of French artists and marked by the use of bold, often distorted forms and vivid colors.† Matisse was associated with this group due to his use of vivid colors, as well as his unusual style of presenting objects. Henri Emoile Matisse was born in Le Cateau in northern France on December 31, 1869. The son of a middle class family, his first career was in the law field. However, an appendicitis attack in 1890 rendered him bedridden, and with much time on his hands, he began to study the art of painting. To help alleviate his boredom, his mother bought him a paint box, and thus began his new passion: painting. In 1893, the work of Matisse was noticed by Gustav Moreau, (1826-1898) French painter, who developed a distinctive style in the Symbolist mode. Matisse displayed his work for the first time in 1896 at the ‘Salon de la Societe Nationale’. In 1903, Matisse was exposed to the pointillist paintings of Henri Edmond Cross and Paul Signac. Pointillism was a late 19th-century method of painting, consisting of depositing small dots or strokes of pure color on the canvas. Seen from a distance, these â€Å"points† blend and give the effect of a different color and heightened lumino sity. The style, a development of impressionist color theories, was originated by the French painters Georges Seurat and Paul Signac.

Modern Language Association Essay

The Modern Language Association (MLA) format is the most used format in doing papers especially with Liberal Arts and Humanities subjects (Purdue Owl). This format is based primarily on the author’s name and page number format. But before we start discussing how to cite sources, we must first learn how to properly format the paper using MLA. According to the OWL at Purdue website, the paper size should be a standard 8. 5 x 11 inches with 1-inch margin on all sides. The paper should be double-spaced using a formal font style such as Times New Roman in 12 pts. On all pages of the paper, a header that includes the last name of the owner of the paper and page numbers should be placed. The first lines of the paper should be indented to the left and one line apart: First and Last Name of the owner of the paper, name of professor, Subject/Course, and the date. Once these things are set up, the paper could now be officially started; the title of the paper should be at the center one line following the date (Purdue Owl). There are two basic ways of doing an in-text citation using MLA format. The first is using signal phrases — naming the author first in the sentence and then placing in parentheses the page number where the citation came from after the cited words. The second is including the last name of the author in the parenthetical citation, written before the page number and without any marks between them. If a particular source has no author mentioned, there are also two ways on how to properly cite the material. First is to use the title of the work as a signal phrase or place a shortened version of the title in the parenthetical citation. In case of sources where an organization can be used as the source, use the name of the organization as if it was the author. If page numbers are missing, like in web sites, just include the name of the author, again, either as a signal phrase or a parenthetical citation (â€Å"MLA in-text citations† 2).
